Screen My Bones
Bone loss is silent and usually has no symptoms until a fracture occurs. Screening is especially worth considering if any of the following apply to you:
Hormonal and age
Perimenopausal, or have been through menopause (women in their mid-40s to mid-50s)
Early menopause, before 45, whether naturally or surgically
A fracture after the age of 50
A parent who has osteoporosis or has had a hip fracture
Low testosterone (men)
Medical conditions
Steroid medication, or long-term proton pump inhibitors
Rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid disease or diabetes
Chronic liver or kidney disease
A malabsorption condition such as Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis or coeliac disease
No periods for six months or more
Lifestyle and body
Rapid weight loss, including through GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro
Low body weight or small stature
A largely sedentary lifestyle
Smoking, or drinking heavily
A dairy-free diet without alternative sources of calcium, or a past or present eating disorder
Even if none of these apply, a scan gives you a valuable baseline to protect the strength, mobility and independence you rely on.

Your Bone Health Pathway
Whatever your result, you are supported by a clear plan and, where you need it, the full expertise of The Whitehall Clinic.
Normal
T-score above -1.0
Excellent news — your bone density is within the healthy range. We recommend using this as your baseline and returning for a follow-up scan in 12 to 24 months, alongside weight-bearing exercise, adequate calcium and vitamin D, and a bone-healthy lifestyle.
Osteopenia
T-score between -1.0 and -2.5
Lower than average bone density, but not osteoporosis — and very much something you can act on. We recommend sharing your report with your GP and considering a Bone Profile blood test to rule out other causes and uncover any underlying reasons for bone loss. You may also consult our Consultant Endocrinologist to discuss next steps, since bone health is closely governed by hormones. A follow-up scan in 12 months helps track your progress.
Osteoporosis
T-score -2.5 or below
An important result to act on — and a highly manageable condition with the right support. We recommend a Bone Profile blood test and a consultation with our Consultant Endocrinologist, Dr Rob Moisey, to assess and manage your bone health. Where clinically appropriate, we can also arrange a confirmatory DEXA scan through our imaging partners. Sharing your report with your GP is advised.

What is a REMS Echolight scan?
REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) is an advanced ultrasound scan that assesses your bone density and bone quality at the hip and spine — the same sites measured by traditional DEXA. Unlike a standard scan, it measures not only how dense your bones are but also your bone quality: the microarchitecture that determines how strong your bones truly are, giving a more complete picture of your fracture risk. REMS is clinically validated, MHRA approved, CE marked and FDA cleared, with diagnostic accuracy of 98% or above when compared to DEXA.
How does the partnership between The Whitehall Clinic and Screen My Bones work?
This service is delivered in partnership between The Whitehall Clinic and Screen My Bones, combining Screen My Bones’ cutting-edge REMS scanning technology with the expert-led clinical care of our Leeds private clinic. From your scan to your results, and every step that may follow, you are supported by two trusted teams working together.
Is it safe? Is there any radiation?
Yes, it is completely safe. REMS uses ultrasound, not X-rays, so there is no radiation exposure at all. This makes it safe for repeat scans and suitable in situations where a DEXA scan may not be appropriate.
How long does the scan take, and do I need to prepare?
The scan takes around 20 minutes. There is no preparation — no fasting, no injections, and you remain fully clothed throughout.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. You can book directly through our online booking system.
Where is the scan carried out, and who performs it?
Your scan is carried out by a fully trained and certified Echolight Technician at The Whitehall Clinic, 5 Wellington Place, Leeds LS1 4AP — a five-minute walk from Leeds train station.
When and how will I get my results, and what will they include?
Within 24 to 48 hours of your scan you receive an email inviting you to log in to your personal Screen My Bones platform, which you keep for life at no extra cost. There you will find your full Echolight report — your T-score, Z-score and Fragility Score for both hip and spine — alongside expert guidance and personalised resources covering exercise, nutrition, hormones and lifestyle. Every report is designed to be clear and self-explanatory, and with any of our bone health blood tests you also receive a GP interpretation of your results.
Can I discuss my results with a doctor?
Yes. Your report is designed to be clear and self-explanatory, but an optional 20-minute consultation with a Whitehall Clinic GP is available if you would like to talk your results through.
How is REMS different from a DEXA scan?
REMS matches DEXA for diagnostic accuracy (98% or above) but adds several advantages: it is completely radiation-free and safe for repeat scans and in pregnancy; you stay fully clothed throughout; the technology is portable; and it measures bone quality as well as density — giving a more complete picture of your true fracture risk, with results in 24 to 48 hours rather than the typical 6 to 8 week wait.
What happens if my result shows osteopenia or osteoporosis?
You are fully supported. Depending on your result we may recommend a Bone Profile blood test, a consultation with our Consultant Endocrinologist, and — where appropriate — a confirmatory DEXA scan. Every result comes with clear next steps.
How much does it cost, and when are appointments available?
The scan is £199, with an optional 20-minute GP results consultation available for £85. Appointments are available on Thursdays and Saturdays.
